I’d forgotten how much I loved Jonny Lang until I heard a song from his latest album. (Do people say “album” anymore?) I actually found it by way of another blogger who talked about a recent concert. Then I looked up Lang’s website and found more treasure. From what I can tell, the album (Turn Around) is a mix of gospel and blues, but that’s cool. His voice and his guitar skillz still make my spleen quiver. If G is for “guitarist” – Jonny Lang is a GILF.

“Bump in the Road” is a metaphor – most songs are, I suppose. (Except “Last Kiss” covered by Pearl Jam – it was a dumb song in 1964 and it hasn’t improved in the last 44 years. Click the link at your own risk). Now I forgot what I was going to say because that stupid tune is stuck in my head.

Maybe I should just let Jonny speak for me, because every time I hear this song or try to talk about it, I get very emotional. More on that later, I suppose.

Lyrics after the jump

Breaker, breaker, breaker 1 9
Is there anybody out there?
I’m running this road for the first time
I’d sure like to know what’s ahead

I been on the wrong track with the wrong map
And I’m trying to find my way home
So, come back if you’re on the line
Let me know I’m not alone

With this heavy load to tow behind
Its all I can do to stay between the lines
And whatever may come my way I

Can’t slow down not for the weather
Won’t back down – I know it gets better
(Come) too far now if I can keep it together
Won’t turn around not now for just a bump in the road

Breaker, breaker, stay on the line
I’m about to fall asleep at the wheel
I’ve been pushing my whole life to meet the deadline
And I’m waiting for my second wind

I can’t make it alone – I can’t survive
I’m gonna need you to make it out alive
To the other side

Can’t slow down not for the weather
Won’t back down – I know it gets better
(Come) too far now if I can keep it together
Won’t turn around not now for just a bump in the road

Got nothing to prove but so much to lose
And I’d gladly give it up just to hold
Onto you cause you’re all that Ive got, all I want, all I need

Can’t slow down not for the weather
Won’t back down – I know it gets better
(Come) too far now if I can keep it together
Won’t turn around not now for just a bump in the road
